Showing, is something that many BMHS members enjoy and take part in regularly ‘flying the Morgan flag’ at local and National level. Not only do they enjoy the excitement of the competition (against Morgans and other breeds) but they also use the opportunity to showcase their horses to a wider audience. For some of us however, either because of practical problems, like transport, or getting sufficient time off work to enable us to pack up and head off to a show for a couple of days, showing is not at the top of their list of preferred ‘horsey’ activities.
While many of us enjoy taking part, there are others who choose to do other things with their Morgans. The Society, in an attempt to embrace all aspects of Morgan ownership and to facilitate members having a sense of belonging to something worthwhile, are inviting people to become Regional Coordinators in order that they may identify the interests of members in their Region.
You will see on the accompanying map that we have divided the UK in to six regions of varying geographical size, according to ‘density’ of Morgan owning population. It is hoped that each Region will have two coordinators who will make contact with owners in their region and find out what activities they enjoy, what their interests are and to see if events can be organised in accordance with these. It could be anything from clinics, to pleasure rides, to educational events, or simply social gatherings where Morgan folk can meet together without the stress and pressures of a competition and simply chat.
Coordinators can liaise with those from other areas (via BMHS website
for example) to let the rest of us know what is being planned and to give
those from outside their area, the opportunity to take part. So far we have
representatives for five of the six regions who have kindly volunteered. If
you would like to join them and us in making the BMHS more relevant to its’
membership, please get in touch with me or any of the Board members. If
you’re not able to take on a Coordinating role, please make contact with the
Coordinators in your area to say ‘Hello’, and let them know what your
interests are.
