January 2020 Letter from the BMHS Board
WELCOME to 2020! The last twelve months seem to have flown by but 2019 was a year of fun, kicking off with a fantastic Easter Clinic with Mike Goebig and Dwayne Knowles. They were impressed with the progress everyone had made since their last visit and everyone made huge strides with their horses over the event. For this years’ Easter Clinic we are delighted to welcome back Steve Davis for four days of intensive training which will hopefully put us in great stead ready for 2020.
For Members the first breed show of the year was the May Festival Show at Moreton Morrell with Pure Bred Morgan Classes and a wide range of Open Foreign Breed classes. Morgans held their own against some tough competition to win the World Breeds In Hand Championship, the Supreme In Hand Championship, the Walk Trot Championship, the Youth Championship and the Supreme Ridden Champion.
August bought us the Youth Clinic which was a lovely event and the children who took part thoroughly enjoyed their three days. Alex Lockhart returned for a second year as our clinician and did a sterling job with three entirely different groups of children. They enjoyed many different activities and, as the majority of the Camp were age 8 and under, the older Youth were great role models for the little ones and really encouraged them especially when trying new challenges. We were so proud of them.
The Western Region Show followed on from the Youth Clinic at Monnington Court. It was a perfect day for a show and although entries were down on previous years, the quality was top notch. Judge Rob Williams was full of compliments for the horses he judged and he was very taken with Show Champion Optimus Prime with Angela Conner Bulmer.
Our Veteran Morgans had a sterling year again in open competition with Landside Morgans beautiful black stallion, Landside Music Lord and handler Tim Northcott qualifying again for the Senior Showing Final at Olympia. Five Morgans also represented the breed at the VHS Championship Show in the Supreme Finals both In Hand and Under Saddle which was a wonderful sight.
Throughout the year we saw Morgans competing in the many Foreign Breeds classes throughout the country with much success. Six year old Monnington Kipling with Amy Lewis took the Supreme In Hand Champion at Equifest and Optimus Prime with Angela Conner took Reserve Supreme Ridden which was so exciting. It was fabulous to see 2 Morgans take top spot in Open competition. Morgans were well represented at several County Shows through the year and consistently placed in the top six. Go Morgans!
We look forward to seeing you all in 2020! Please keep us up to speed with your Morgan endeavours, other Members love to hear what you’re up to. Doug Wade is looking for contributions for the BMHS Magazine due out at Easter so put pen to paper or email your latest news to , it would be great to hear from you all. Our first event on the Calendar is the Working Equitation Clinic on 22nd February with Justine Armatige. Come and join us. We are sure our Morgans will love the challenges of this discipline!
Best Wishes The BMHS Board
